Z1, a Y Combinator-backed digital banking app, empowers teenagers and young adults to achieve financial independence through intuitive financial tools and a fresh approach to banking.

During my tenure as a Product Designer at Z1, I played a pivotal role in crafting the Zodiac Design System, a comprehensive design framework that elevated the app’s consistency, performance, and visual quality.

Crafting the Zodiac System.

To address the challenges of inconsistency and inefficiency in Z1’s app, I spearheaded the creation of the Zodiac Design System. This initiative established a unified framework to streamline design processes, improve visual coherence, and accelerate product development. By standardizing components, interactions, and visual elements, the Zodiac Design System became the foundation for delivering a cohesive and polished user experience.

I worked closely with Z1’s internal teams to ensure the design system met the needs of various stakeholders, acting as the point of contact for cross-disciplinary feedback. Additionally, I collaborated with development squads to guide token implementation, ensuring the system’s principles translated seamlessly into a functional product. This effort resulted in a more efficient workflow and a consistent, high-quality user experience across the app.

Brand Identity, Digitized.

Following the creation of the Zodiac Design System, I partnered with Porto Rocha, the renowned design agency behind Z1’s rebranding, to translate their creative vision into the digital space. Together, we adapted Porto Rocha’s vibrant and youthful branding for Z1’s app and digital platforms, ensuring alignment between the company’s identity and its user-facing products.

As the primary liaison between Porto Rocha, Z1’s teams, and external collaborators, I facilitated seamless communication and feedback loops. This collaboration allowed us to refine the visual identity into a robust and adaptable digital framework, that spoke to Z1's Gen Z audience. This process brought Porto Rocha’s branding to life in a way that resonated with Z1’s users and reinforced the company’s mission.
